‘Through the Lens’ photo competition

Posted on 11th April 2011 | in Community

Preparations are in hand for the second “Through the Lens” competition, with an exhibition of entries over the weekend of May 28th, 29th and 30th.

The competition is being organised by St. Cuthbert’s Church and Amble Photographic Group and the committee is hoping for an even bigger exhibition than last year. It will be held in the Parish Hall, Dovecote Streeet. Your photographs are needed .

Each photo can be entered into one of two categories: “Place”, which means any views of Amble, Hauxley and surrounding area, or “People”, taken at work, rest or play, wherever that may be. Each entry costs £1, with no limit to the number of entries per person. Young people under 18 can enter free. Get your entry forms from Amble Development Trust at Fourways 2, from N&F Young on Queen Street and from St. Cuthbert’s Church, on Church Street. Return your photos to the same places by April 30th.

Nigel Lowder of Amble will judge the “Views” and Jane Coltman of the Gazette will judge the “People”.  Cash prizes will be awarded and the committee is grateful to Amble Town Council for their grant of £200 towards administration, also to Amble Boat Company, Nickalls and Company, the Harbour Fish Bar and individuals who have donated prizes.

“These businesses donated prizes last year and have done so again. We really appreciate their support of our project,” commented a member of the committee. “If any other business, organisation or individual  would like to contribute, that would be great. It means we can award more and better prizes.”

There are some photos left over from the exhibition last year. These will be available for owners to collect at this year’s exhibition. Would competitors please take their photos at the end of the exhibition on May 30th. If you can’t do it yourself please get somebody else to do it for you. It would be greatly appreciated.

Tea and biscuits will be served on the Saturday and Sunday, with cream and jam scones on the Monday. A raffle with great prizes will be held.
