A giant swan

Watch out for a giant swan gracing the waters in Northumberland. It has been built largely with recycled materials in our Parish Hall, where special care had to be taken not to damage the newly sanded floor.

The Mobex Creative Adventures team worked with the SWAN project (Support for Women Around Northumberland) in a celebration of the work SWAN have been doing in Northumberland over the past year.

Nicky Sargeant, Mobex’s creative development worker told how the organisation provides a safe environment in which to try new things, gain new skills and create memories to last a lifetime.

The ladies of SWAN, who have encountered a variety of personal problems, had no previous experience in arts and crafts, but they have been involved with every aspect of the build so they have been learning a whole range of skills. The ladies told me, ‘we were cynical at first (about the outcome) we laughed at our mistakes but we are pleased with  our success. It is good physical therapy.’ They have also enjoyed working together as a group. They hope to take their new found skill into other projects.
