Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think: June – July 2012

Amble is buzzing with preparations – for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, for the arrival of the Olympic Torch, watching Venus passing the sun and with plans and strategies for the future . New businesses are opening their doors  – which is encouraging, although we are sorry that for some it has not worked out.

Please continue to send us your photos of events in the town. You can email them to us – the address is in the column on the left – or for social media types, you can post directly on to our Facebook page. If you are on Pinterest, we are establishing a ‘Photos of Amble’ board so please take a look. Northumberland County Council have also set up a series of Pinterest boards with wonderful images of the region, including Amble and Druridge Bay. OK, geek speak over!

This issue’s trip down memory lane includes Clarence Hedley’s experiences as a Japanese POW. This co-incidentally is the same subject matter as a new feature film starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, parts of which were recently shot in Berwick and Alnwick. But fear not, Amble itself was visited by a Harry Potter film star no less! Read why actor Fiona Shaw visited the Friendliest Port and recorded a group of local people reading love poetry.

Good luck to all the event planners, to everyone else, please join in and let’s hope for some warm sunny weather over the next couple of months. We’ve earned it!
