Stunning beaches, gorgeous scenery and cultural spots to die for; probably not a small Northumberland town which first comes to mind.  Well, welcome to Amble.  This charming, former mining town has transformed itself into one of Northumberland’s prettiest fishing villages, helped of course by being located on one of the most stunning parts of the Heritage Coast.

Being so close to the sea, there are lots of watersports available with the marina offering sailing, kayaking and windsurfing suitable for old hands as well as beginners.  Excellent surfing can be found at Druridge Bay, conveniently located just south of Amble and an annual regatta organised by the town is a high point of the social calendar.  If you’d rather let someone else take the strain, hop on a boat to Coquet Island, today a haven for rare seabirds and perfect for those seeking peace and quiet.

Families will enjoy discovering the home of Harry Potter at nearby Alnwick Castle, just a short drive from Amble.  There are regular Potter-themed tours, ideal for getting the little ones excited about history and Broomstick Training weekends for die-hard fans.  You’ll also find plenty of family-friendly attractions in the surrounding towns of Morpeth and Bamburgh.

Lovers of the great outdoors are well-catered for in Amble.  Just a stone’s throw away is Northumberland National Park offering visitors miles of unspoilt countryside to discover on foot, two wheels or horseback punctuated with picturesque villages ideal for a refreshing break.  Given the name of the town, no visit to Amble would be complete without an amble to Warkworth, a gentle five mile route along St Oswald’s Way.  Explore the imposing twelfth century Warkworth castle or spend a day enjoying the wonderful beach.

Whether you spend a few days away or as long as a couple of weeks, you’re sure to have a memorable Northumberland holiday with Sykes Cottages.

  1. Eh? When did the TOWN of Amble become a VILLAGE ?
It’s that awful music and dire video on the AmbleNorthumberland website wot dun it.
Amble will never dominate Amble never mind the world with that.
    Get Colin Harris onto it.

Oh for goodness sake ‘Round the Bend’ if you cant say anything positive then don’t say anything at all.Thats what really annoys me about Amble – all the bitching and negativity.

Why bring AmbleNorthumberland into it? the article has nothing to do with them so why not give some credit where its due i think they’re doing a great job – at least they’re giving it a go.

By the way I note you don’t even have the guts to use your own name.

Mon Dieu ! Intestins ? Quels sont ces tripes ?
Vu I’abri-bus sur la route Acklington ?………………….

  3. Dear Round the Bend

We are sorry you think our music is awful, our video is dire and that you obviously do not like us or our website.

    Unfortunately we cannot please everyone!

Have a great Christmas and all the best for 2013!
