The Post Office in Queen Street will be closed for three days for refurbishments

Queen Street’s Post Office is set for an upgrade which will include refurbishment of the shop and longer opening hours. The work will necessitate the post office closing on Wednesday 6 February at 12.30 and re-opening on Saturday 9 February at 9am.

Postmaster Bryan Hewitson told The Ambler, “We’re excited about this. There’ll be new signage, new counters and a new layout. And there’ll be longer opening hours which means we’ll be able to offer extended services too.”

There are 50 new-look Post Offices branches in the pipeline, with plans to eventually upgrade 6,000 and Amble hopes to be the first to open in the North East. The new-look branch will include four serving positions which will be a mixture of screened and open plan, and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter which will be available during shop opening hours.

The new hours will see the Queen Street branch open from 9am – 6pm Mon – Sat.

Bryan said “When I heard about the upgrade opportunities, I said I want to be the first in the North. If you don’t change things, you’re going backwards.”

During the Queen Street branch closure, the Harbour Post Office will still be available.
