JCSC Ofsted inspection result

JCSC-exteriorJames Calvert Spence College Acklington Rd has received a Grade 3 (Requires Improvement) grading from its recent Ofsted inspection. Grade 3 means that some areas were judged to be good while others still require improvement.

The report says that pupils’ behaviour and cooperation are good and the school is a place where they feel secure. However, some of the pupils are not attaining the standards of which they are capable.

Chairman of the Governors Cllr Scott Dickinson said “I am delighted with the progress the school has made. From a notice to improve in 2010 many aspects of the school are now judged to be good or improving rapidly.

“I am pleased that the hard work and dedication of all staff has been recognised by the inspectors and that we are offering much improved educational provision to families in our area. It was also very positive to see that the parents who responded to the Ofsted questionnaire said that 64% would recommend our school to another parent.

“I am confident that we can maintain or further improve those aspects of the school that are judged to be good and, as inspectors said; we have really good capacity to be judged as a good or outstanding school in our next inspection”.

Executive Headteacher Christine Graham said “While obviously disappointed that we were not judged to be good in all aspects of the school we are delighted that so many of our strengths were recognised and that inspectors felt that we are improving rapidly. We are particularly pleased that our students’ good behaviour and courtesy to others were recognised and that students say we sort out any problems well.”

The previous Ofsted report in February 2010 also graded the then Coquet High School with a Grade 3 (Satisfactory). Grade 3 definitions have been changed by the Govenment from Satisfactory to Requires Improvement.

  1. I find it odd that Leadership and management can be rated as ‘good’ when pupils attainment and teaching is unsatisfactory. How can that be?
