East Amble women’s workshop

Posted on 28th February 2014 | in Community

Fourth Action has been awarded funds from the People’s Health Trust to develop the East Amble Women’s Workshop. The project with women in Amble East, helps them gain skills and confidence to contribute to the well-being of local families and neighbourhood.

It is based around the Women’s Workshop, a community building on the Coquet Enterprise Park which has been constructed by women. The project aims to widen the horizons of young women by bringing them into contact with alternative career possibilities, enhance the lives of children through family activities run by women, parents and carers, and increase older women’s involvement through access to women-friendly support and to engage in online activity such as social media.

Fourth Action wants to work with groups of women who may be linked with other local services in Amble. There will be quarterly women-led themed events for the wider community, and once trained the peer mentors will offer one to one support to other local women.

We plan to build a core group of around 16 local women to take the project forward and to benefit from the initial peer mentoring programme. If you know anyone who might be interested, please pass on our contact details.
