Warkworth Golf Club: thunder and lightening

Posted on 11th August 2015 | in Community

Warkworth golf course is renowned for its ability to remain playable after heavy rain. This came to the rescue on the occasion of Captain Pete Holleran’s day. Thunder, lightning and rain drenched the region but Warkworth shrugged it all off and play started on time. Steve Lamb held off Roy Wilson to take the prize with ‘Hauxley beach bum’ Les Graves taking third slot. Dave Arkley won the past Captain’s Cup.

Amble resident Joe Lewis was a founder member of the Club’s senior section and the trophy in his memory is one the ‘majors’ played. The gross scorer becomes Senior Champion with the nett winner taking the Cup. Ken Park scored a nett 68 to win the Cup with the 81 gross of Bob Thompson being good enough to be crowned Champion.

Two membership offers are available. Anyone joining from 1 October will pay £322 with nothing more to pay until January 2017. Members of other clubs who want winter golf played on summer greens and like to see their ball bounce on landing rather than stop dead in its own pitch mark can become members from 1 October to mid March for just £125.
