Crowds at last year’s Lifeboat Day

Harbour Day takes place on Sunday 30 August. The service starts at 10am.

Lesley Falkous and her seven year old son Evan will open the event. They have been raising money for the Shannon Appeal by running everything from 5k to full marathons.

This is a fun day out for all the family. There will be the usual stalls and a Grand Raffle; first prize is a painting by local artist Jimmy Thompson, plus many other prizes. There is also a NUFC raffle in conjunction with Marks and Spencer, Morpeth and a variety of signed memorabilia to be won – this will be drawn at our October event at The Radcliffe Club.

There will be children’s games and a Frozen themed sponge throw, as well as a Fun Fair on the Little Shore, and a display of Birds of Prey. Amble Fire Service will be in attendance. Other attractions include the Army Cadet Climbing Wall – the Cadets will try to climb the equivalent of Cheviot.

Have your photograph taken with some classic motorcycles or with the RNLI mascot Stormy Stan. Music during the day will be provided by the Northumbria Army Cadet Cassino Band.

The main RNLI display exercise will take place around 1.30pm with a commentary provided by one of the Coastguards. In the morning Northside Surf will give a small display and in the afternoon will do another by the quay.

There will be a children’s fancy dress competition in conjunction with the Harbour Villages’ week of activities based on ‘By the Sea’, to be judged at 3pm. Age groups are under 8, under 12 and under 16, so we look forward to seeing the quayside awash with sea creatures, pirates, lobsters, and mermaids! Parents and adults are welcome to dress up too, join in with the Committee and crew in ensuring that we have a fun packed day raising money to meet the £200,000 target for a new Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Donations of items to sell i.e. books, tombola prizes, Bric a Brac (no electrical items) can be dropped off at Premier Store, Queen Street or from Wednesday 26 at the RNLI Boathouse. Any home baked goods can be dropped off at the station on Saturday 29 throughout the day.
Come and have a great day out.
