Winter at Warkworth Golf Club

Posted on 17th February 2017 | in Community

Winter is the time golf clubs can get on with doing those jobs for which there is no time when the grass needs cutting on a daily basis. In the case of Warkworth the major task this year is re-building the Killie Bridge and good progress is being made. On January 16 the fourth and tallest A-frame was erected and the longest span put up. The bridge is now well over half-way across and, subject to reasonable weather, will be in use by the start of the season.

The new Captain, Yorkshire exile Graham Sawley, is settling in and preparing for his drive-in to office on Easter Saturday. Similarly the new Lady Captain, Christine Douglas, is preparing for the forthcoming season. Meanwhile the committee has been strengthened by three new faces.

Club Opens are becoming increasingly popular. The Winter Warmer Texas Scramble Open on March 5 has attracted record entries and there is now a substantial reserve list. Entries are now being taken for the summer Opens: Ladies, Mixed and Seniors.

Full details are on the club website www.warkworthgolfclub.co.uk and the club entry on Golf Empire.

Membership to the club remains open and with the start of the summer season, if you are interested in taking up golf, or returning after a period away, you can take advantage of the attractive offer of just £250 for the year from April 1 to the end of December.

If interested contact the secretary on secretary@warkworthgolfclub.co.uk or visit our website or just drop in to the clubhouse.
