Kevin Keegan takes over. "We all eagerly await"

From the team...

Another year has flown and we look back on a year of big changes in the town. The closure of the Co-op Department stores, the deaths of major figures in our community. But the future for Amble looks exciting - a new supermarket, more housing, improvements to the Welfare amongst others.

Change is often controversial. For some it’s exciting, full of potential, for others it’s met with concern or mistrust. We hope to remain an integral part of potential changes in the town, informing, sometimes challenging - and always there to air your views. So keep them coming!

By the time you read this, we will be starting to pack our bags and make the move over the road into Fourways2. And it’s not just our physical location that will be changing, please note our phone number: 01665 712929.

The Editorial team and Artograffi were dismayed at the hasty removal of the skatepark. Because the land was to be sold, the District Council gave two weeks’ notice for the equipment to be removed. This paper campaigned for and supported the young people who called for “a proper place to skate” back in the autumn of 2000. They finally got their skatepark in the summer of 2002 with the words “This is yours, take care of it”.

Read the skateboarders’ letter for their reaction to the situation. We understand that talks are continuing to take place with the youngsters on potentially agreeable solutions. And as our young reporter says here: “We’ll keep you posted everyone!”

In the meantime, have a very Merry Christmas and an even better New Year.
