Border Links Veggies - up and running in time for Christmas!

Border Links Veggie Basket Scheme is now up and running in Amble and surrounding areas. Deliveries started in November, and the service is now providing fresh, local vegetables to the elderly, people living in villages without access to shops or transport, and local people who just want the convenience of a home delivery of healthy vegetables.

Part of Border Links Community Enterprise, the project started in rural North Northumberland in January 2006 and is now being replicated in other parts of the county.

The main aim of the Enterprise is to improve social inclusion and local opportunities for people. Border Links Director, Helen Hogg said “The team’s hard work has paid off and we’re actually delivering to customers much earlier than we initially anticipated. The support from local people has been outstanding and we’ll all be working extra hard to deliver a superb service to our customers.”

For anyone wishing to give it a try, each basket costs £5.00 and contains potatoes, onions and carrots, plus a selection of seasonal vegetables, recipes and other surprises. Customers can also order free-range eggs at £1.00 per half dozen, for inclusion in their basket.

You can contact Border Links on 01890-820714 or email borderlinks@hhogg.free-online.co.uk. Or call in to meet them at the Church Hall of The Sacred Heart and St Cuthbert, High Street, Amble. Border Links meets there each Tuesday and Friday from 10am -3pm and visitors are always welcome.
