LEGO is 50
LEGO was founded in Denmark in 1932 when carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen began making wooden toys.
Children all around the world spend 5 billion hours a year playing with LEGO bricks.
More than 400 million people around the world have played with LEGO bricks. 2.16million LEGO elements are moulded every hour, that’s 36,000 per minute!
More than 400 Billion LEGO bricks have been produced since 1949. 19 Billion LEGO Elements are produced every year.
There are about 62 LEGO bricks for every one of the worlds 6 billion inhabitants.
Back From The Dead
 |
A canoeist is apparently “back from the dead” after five years of being dead. John Darwin went missing after he went out to sea on his canoe in 2002, he allegedly did what he did because of the debt he was in. The truth came out about him not being dead when a photo of him and his wife in Panama City in South of America three years ago surfaced.
John’s wife admitted that he was actually living in the bed-sit next door. |
The Nintendo Wii
Is the Nintendo wii good for you or is it bad? Playstations and game cubes are making children overweight but is the Nintendo wii different? Joe says “It is a good console because it’s not like other consoles. It’s like an upgraded version of I toy.” Nintendo wii’s could be the game of the future and it’s good for you. Children are getting heavier and heavier because they sit on a playstation all day. There was a man who lost two stone just by playing on a Nintendo wii so get playing!
Do old people need a Wii?
According to BBC news webpage a council in Wales is giving Nintendo wii’s to elderly people. They think it will help keep them physically and mentally fit. They have also been used in care homes in England and a recent study by the Alzheimer’s Society suggested that the typical person in a care home suffering with dementia could spend as little as two minutes a day interacting with other residents. The older people enjoy baseball, tennis, bowling, boxing and golf.
Easter Cross
On Good Friday Christians remember the day that Jesus was crucified. He was nailed to a wooden cross by Roman soldiers. This is the reason why the cross is an important sign for Christians today.
There are crosses in churches and many Christians wear a cross on a chain. At Easter people eat hot cross buns which have a cross shape on the top.

Stardoll
We decided to do a review about Stardoll.
Katie: ‘I’ve played on Stardoll for about 2 years. The best thing about it is you can make new friends and you get a doll you can dress up and do makeovers, but only if you become a member.’
Sophie: ‘I’ve been on Stardoll for about 10 minutes. So far I like it. It’s good, there are good clothes. I would play on it again.’
Katie: ‘I like 60s Twiggy with the long earrings. She’s so cool. She was in one of the history books at school. She’s got good clothes. Even though Sophie and I like Goths and punks, we like her.

Dancing gorilla at zoo
A gorilla at a zoo in Devon has been dancing for crowds.
Damsi is a western gorilla who loves to dance. It is entertaining for humans but the reason he does this is to communicate with other primates. Mr Knowling from the zoo said this is usual for primates and they also grunt, rumble, cough, bark and beat their chests. You can find out about loads of animals including Damsi at www.cbbc.co.uk
Blue is back!
Blue smarties are coming back after being dropped nearly two years ago to help rid the wonderful world of sweets of artificial colours. Instead of artificial colours Nestle is now using……SEAWEED!!! It sounds horrible but they still taste great. The seaweed is called spirulina. The original blue smarties were first introduced in 1989.

Are you a good neighbour?
Do you:
Slam your house door
Let your gate bang when it is windy.
Shout at night.
Slam your car door.
Play loud music.
Let your dog bark at night.
Do your DIY at 10pm
If so you might be a bad neighbour |
Easter traditions
In Sweden at Easter the Swedes used to light Easter bonfires and shout and scream to frighten away witches. On Maundy Thursday people say the witches used to fly to Blakulla and return again on the Saturday.
Easter is a big holiday in Norway, especially for children, because it is a time for holidays.
Easter break is longer in Norway than any other country in Europe. Norwegian Easter lasts from Wednesday afternoon before Maundy Thursday to Tuesday morning after Easter Monday. In other countries in Europe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are not public holidays, only Easter Monday.
The Americans have a big parade for Easter. The men and women show off their special costumes and colourful bonnets, the person who leads holds an Easter candle or a cross in his or her hand.
In England we paint eggs, dye eggs and roll eggs. We also eat chocolate eggs and have Easter egg hunts. We eat hot cross buns as well.
