Word on the street...
As Spring approaches, a number of major issues in Amble seem to be developing too.

A win for people power as residents appear successfully to have vetoed the controversial proposed Percy Street speed bumps; no bats at Breeze’s garage, so demolition can go ahead; and refurbishment at the Paddlers play area, also the subject of discussion, could be almost finished by the time you read this.
Without doubt the major current talking point - the proposed supermarket next to the Braid - has moved from speculation to more serious position statements. Most people seem in favour of a supermarket, but there’s some debate over where would be best to site it.

A number of town traders think a supermarket near the Braid, with paths linking it to Queen Street, would increase the number of shoppers coming to Amble and therefore their business; others say people would just shop at the supermarket and drive away.

Conservationists claim the development would desecrate the Braid and are trying to have it registered as a village green.
Meanwhile the planners have said that the Northumberland Estates have not given them enough information to consider the application.
