Share ideas at Amble Community Forum
Local government is changing in Northumberland
The new Unitary Council has the opportunity to step back and re-assess how residents can have a real say in making Northumberland an even better place to live and work.
Community forums are to be set up in various localities across Northumberland so that people who live and work in a local area can get together to offer their ideas and solutions to local problems and work together to address them. Amble is one of these localities.
What might a forum look like?
It could look like a group of representatives from parish councils, other statutory bodies, voluntary and community groups, council officers and unitary councillors sitting around a table talking. There is no fixed definition of what a forum is or should be, but Northumberland forums will have features in common.
The Amble Community Forum area covers the parishes of Amble, Hauxley and Togston. Amble has been operating as a pilot Community Forum area since late 2007.
We are now planning to re-launch the forum, and to be successful the Community Forum needs to involve local people in planning for their community.
This is achieved by the production of a community action plan. The plan will then be used to support local activity that solves problems at a local level as well as to feed into area partnerships the problems that need to be addressed at a more strategic level.
Get Involved!
A Community Forum workshop will be held on Monday 22nd June at Fourways 2, 6 Dilston Terrace, Amble.
For it to be successful it needs local people to come along and get involved in the planning of their community.
An afternoon drop-in session (2 pm – 4 pm) will provide an opportunity for members of the general public to put forward ideas and proposals that they would like to see included in the action plan. Personnel will be on hand to note the suggestions and these will be used as a reference for the evening session workshop.
The evening workshop session (6 pm - 8 pm) will include representation from invited organisations that represent a broad spectrum of interests in the community. Ideas from these workshops will be progressed by a working group towards the production of the Community Action Plan.
