Ofsted reports improved standards at Coquet High School
OFSTED HM Inspector, Mr Wilson, visited Coquet High School on 4th November 2009 to review the progress being made since the last inspection in February 2009. His written report states, “Having considered all the evidence I am of the opinion that at this time the school is making satisfactory progress in addressing the issues for improvement and in raising students’ achievement.”
GCSE results in 2009 have improved, with an increase of 4.1%, in five or more A*-C grades. English did particularly well.

Commenting on the inspector’s visit, Headteacher Paul Allen, said “I am pleased that the progress made by the school has been recognised by HMI. Everyone in school is working hard to address the issues raised in our last inspection and this work is ensuring steady progress is being made. |
"I am particularly proud of what the English staff have achieved and the Department’s continuing work to raise standards further. The school has also made progress in the Sixth Form where the 2009 results again showed improvements on 2008. Our main focus now is on improving standards in Science.”
Mr Allen explained “In recent years we have had a number of long term staff absences, but we now have a full compliment of Science staff, with an enthusiastic approach to teaching, who have turned the Science Department around. I am confident that the next inspection will be a very positive one for the school.”
