Through the Lens: Photography Competition

The photo competition has received great support from businesses in Amble, who have promised to sponsor prizes. A small organising group from St. Cuthbert’s Church and Amble Photography Group sent out letters to most businesses in the town, explaining the point of the competition and asking for financial support. That support was forthcoming, with the result that we can offer some excellent prizes.
Photos can be entered in three categories: picture postcard view, unusual view, or buildings. In each of the three categories, the following prizes will be awarded.

There will be a first prize of £20 and a second prize of £5 for First School pupils and the same prizes for Middle School pupils and also for High School pupils. That is six prizes for each age group. For all adults there is no age discrimination: three first prizes of £50 and three second prizes of £20. In addition there will be one overall winner of a £50 prize, £100 for the best school portfolio of about 15 photos and a special prize awarded by Amble Boat Company of £100 for the best photograph with a nautical theme (harbour, boats, sea etc.) chosen from all entries in the competition.

The committee is extremely grateful to the Boat Company and also to the Harbour Fish Bar, for their offer of £50, Co-op Funeral Service for £100 for the Schools Portfolio, Nickalls and Company for £25, Zecca for a £30 voucher and to individuals who have contributed. If others would like to give, we are still keen to receive.
We mentioned in the last edition that Amble Town Council have contributed £200 to expenses and organisation. Bearing this in mind and the fact that this competition is only open to the people of Amble and Hauxley, and not to professional photographers, everybody has a chance to show how good our town can look and a chance to win a prize.

Just a reminder: entry forms from N&F Young, Development Trust office, or church on Sunday mornings. Cost of entry for adults is £1 per photo, but entries for young people is now free.
