Welcome to the latest edition of Colin’s Column, taking you through some of the weird and wonderful things the Internet has to offer.

The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honouring those who remove themselves from it in really stupid ways. Charles Darwin said it best: Survival of the Fittest, Culling the Herd, Evolution in Action.

Awkward Family Photos
We’ve all been there – had a family portrait taken which at the time seemed like a good idea, but years later it is now a source of embarrassment and contempt. Well this website takes the best (or is that the worst?) and lets the whole world see them, not just your latest girlfriend/boyfriend or family member.

Halloween Arcade
Yes it’s that time of year, where our doors will be knocked a thousands times between now and 31st October by spooky kids in their fantastic outfits.  This site has over a dozen browser-based games with a Halloween twist – my favourite is ‘Trick or Treat’.

Skyscanner allows you to search for cheap flights – with the main attraction of this site is the way  it shows the range of prices over a period of time, in a simple but attractive way – so if you are flexible on dates it can save you a small fortune in airline costs.

Computing phrase of the day –  “MMORPG ”

A “MMORPG” is a Massively multiplayer online role-playing game – a game which allows thousands of people to participate in them, usually via a computer or games console, over an Internet Connection.  Popular games include “World of Warcraft”, “Final Fantasy XI” and “Phantasy Star Online”.
