Remember 1948?

Posted on 07th December 2011 | in Community , Heritage & Tourism

Interest in next year’s Olympic Games is building up as they get nearer. Not just on national TV and in national newspapers, but on local TV and newspapers as well. We are sure that there must be some good local Olympics stories to tell here in the town.

Does anyone remember the last time they were held in the UK, in 1948? They were known as the Austerity Games because of the rationing of food, clothing and housing. London had been chosen to host the games in 1944 but they were cancelled because of the war.

Did any Amble people manage to get a ticket? Or were they personally involved in some way?
