Encouragement for young poets

The Poetry Games is the exciting new poetry competition for Young Writers aged 11-18 years.
This competition is designed to engage pupils and encourage them to read and write poetry. Secondary schools are being invited to send in poems written by  pupils on a subject that matters to them, to fight for what they believe in, using the power of the pen.
Each poem selected by the editorial team of Poetry Games will be published in a regional anthology
This is one of the poems produced by five of our pupils to be printed in “The Poetry Games – North East Poets” in March 2013.

A Life of  Happiness

Happiness is a lifelong thing
Can’t throw it in the bin.
We must just accept it’s true,
Happiness will always be with you.

Friends and family give it here and there
It will follow everywhere.
Like a child clinging to your hand
Happiness can be so grand.

Sometimes when you feel hope is lost
Just think of all you’ve got.
Bring yourself some elation
Just think of a great occasion.
