The Helm

Our Story
The Helm is a true family effort, run by myself – Alice, and my husband, Aelfred, alongside my parents, Lesley and Darren (pictured). We’ve pooled our collective backgrounds in management, finance, food, and hospitality to bring the business to life. We really feel that our combined experience has been the secret to navigating our first few months so successfully!

Reflecting the Spirit of Amble
Our main goal for The Helm is to be a cafe that truly reflects the town of Amble itself: friendly, adaptable, and a genuine part of the community.

We have been blown away by the response from the locals over the winter months; getting to know our regulars has been the highlight of our journey so far.

While we’re excited to welcome holidaymakers this summer, we hope the local community knows we are here for them all year round.

Food and Specialities
Our menu currently focuses on breakfasts, soup, sandwiches, and toasties, with a strong influence on using different cheeses and interesting flavour combinations. We are especially proud that our menu is highly adaptable. We can easily cater to most preferences and dietary requirements, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a meal with us.
The Pantry: While we work hard to keep our food menu affordable and high-value, we use our Pantry shelves to champion other small, independent businesses, stocking a great selection of gifts and treats.

Opening Times
We are in the process of hiring more help right now and will be moving to seven days a week very shortly to gear up for the summer season.
The Helm deli, coffee shop and cafe is at 73 Queen St, Amble. See more on Facebook.
