Visitors to Amble Masonic Hall will no longer have to pay to park, after a drop in the number of customers was attributed to the parking charges.

The charges were introduced three years ago as a means to help improve the income of the hall. The machines were operated by an external company who collected and oversaw the payments.

However a spokesperson for Lord Warkworth Lodge who own the hall told The Ambler the arrangement had caused problems for their visitors, and those who struggled with using apps to pay for parking. When the parking company began to fine people for not paying correctly, it was felt this had led to a drop in the number of customers.

“The result was the Lodge lost a lot of income as people went elsewhere to hire premises for their functions,” said the spokesperson.

Now Lord Warkworth Lodge have decided not to continue with the fees for those hiring the hall, and hope this will encourage visitors to return.
