A spokesperson for Northumberland County Council said:
“Northumberland County Council is putting a zebra crossing in at the current uncontrolled crossing point on Percy Drive, Amble.
Our highways team carried out a survey which found that a zebra crossing is justified on safety grounds due to the numbers already crossing here, including school children.
“We have taken the opportunity to put the zebra crossing on a raised table which will reduce traffic speeds following reports of speeding in the area.”

The need for a controlled crossing across Percy Drive, one of the main arterial routes into Amble, has been mooted for several years. The idea was discussed by county councillors as far back as 2021, a safety audit took place in 2023 and a start date was expected in 2024.
