Amble Area Community Forum

Posted on 23rd July 2010 | in Community

A meeting of the Forum took place on Monday 14th June. Members received a presentation from young people from Coquet High School who had recently taken part in a “Leisure Time” survey.

A number of the findings of this survey were discussed, including having an indoor place for young people to access, having a local cricket club and all weather facilities, more opportunities for music, art and sports projects, and more organised trips to access activities like the cinema, bowling and ice skating. Young people were also keen to have a “Teen Card” to access swimming at the Granary – with a designated time for 13-16 year olds to access the local pool.

A total of 98 out of 380 respondents were keen to get involved with a Youth Forum and this is something that will be pursued by members and youth work partners in the near future.

Members also discussed the need to tackle local issues including Attracting New Business, Housing, Access to Services and Community Cohesion. Future meetings and workshops will be held to try to bring about positive changes for this area.

The Amble Area Forum bid a fond farewell to Chairman, Paul Allen, (Headteacher, Coquet High School), who has been with the Forum since its inception. Members thanked him for all his support and wish him all the best for the future!
