Death announced of Amble county councillor
County Councillor Arty Hume who represented Amble for Reform UK passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71. His family have put together the following statement.
Cllr Arty Hume who has died aged 71
It is with the deepest regret that we have to report the passing of Cllr Arty Hume who left us on Wednesday 29th July.
Arty represented Amble for Reform UK at Northumberland County Council and was a man of service. He lived in Amble all his life, in adulthood he was an electrician in the mines and then a police Officer. For a brief period, he worked at Kens Autoparts, and as a swimming pool attendant. He even worked as a Pall-bearer on occasions to help and to earn a little extra money. He never stopped working and was always multitasking.
Arty is survived by his wife Michele and his son Adam. They lived in the bungalow that Arty designed and built himself. A man of many talents. He heeded the clarion call for service again when he stood and was elected to local office in May 2025. A humble, polite, respectful man that was well liked cross party in the chamber.
His took immense pride in his part-time role as a long serving member of staff as a steward for Newcastle United.
Because Arty grew up in Amble he was well known and respected by many residents. He worked extremely hard with great enthusiasm for long hours and would not rest until he felt he had done his best for his constituents. He will be sorely missed.
Reform UK Northumberland County Council Leader Rick Baker said “Arty Hume was the compassionate heart of our group. The entire Northumberland Reform Group is deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague.”
