Members of the Coquet Shorebase Trust, in Amble, are ready to take to the water after splashing out on new watersports kits, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, F. Peart & Co.

The charity, which is based on Coquet Street, aims to provide affordable watersports and water training for the local community since it began operating in Amble in 1992. With the help from companies such as F. Peart & Co, the charity assists over 200 people a week who attend courses at the centre.

The £500 donation from F. Peart & Co, supplier of fuels and lubricants customers throughout the Amble area, has enabled the charity to purchase much needed buoyancy suits and wetsuits, which are essential to ensure the safety of those taking part in the activities.

The new kits will be used by junior members of the canoe, sailing and windsurfing clubs, as well as many other groups, including guides and scouts, who use the centre for an introduction to watersports.

The donation was made as part of F. Peart & Co’s charitable bursary scheme, after Vic Brown, volunteer manager of the trust, contacted the company. As part of F. Peart’s commitment to the local community, the bursary scheme aims to support worthwhile causes in the North East and provide an extra helping hand to those in need.

Speaking about the donation, Vic said: “Local people of all ages and from all walks of life get involved at the trust, and they can learn new skills, make friends and gain confidence. Some even go on to work in the watersport industry using the qualifications we help them gain.

“Buying new equipment at the end of the season is essential, and we are really grateful to F. Peart & Co for their generous donation, which has helped us to ensure our members are training safely.”

Laura Jackson, business manager at F. Peart & Co, commented: “It is wonderful to be able to award local community groups with donations through the bursary scheme and it was a pleasure to be able to provide the Coquet Shorebase Trust with the equipment required.

“This bursary is our way of supporting some great causes in the area and keeping in touch with our local communities.”

As a loyal supplier to the region for over 80 years, providing both domestic and commercial oil to rural and remote communities, F. Peart & Co launched the charitable bursary scheme in November 2011 to support local community groups, charities and sports teams who need a helping hand.
