Easter at St. Cuthberts

Posted on 22nd January 2013 | in Community , What's On

Easter is early this year, and so Lent begins on Weds Feb 13th.  Don’t forget to prepare yourselves by making lovely pancakes on Tues 12th!

Lent is a time when Christians examine their lives and re-think their commitment to God, often by doing some new learning, or refreshing ourselves in some way.

Here’s what’s going to be available both at St Cuthbert’s and under the wider auspices of Coquet Churches Together:

At St Cuthbert’s:

Refreshing Faith – a chance to ask questions about Christianity if you are new to it, or just interested, and also for long-term believers to get back to grips with the roots of what they believe.  The mix of viewpoints should make for an interesting time!

Please meet in the Choir Vestry at St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, Church St at 7.30 p.m.

on these Tuesdays: 5th Feb; 19th Feb; 5th March; 19th March, 26th March and 2nd April

This is a stand-alone course and is open to all people, believers and questioners alike.

Meetings with the other churches:

The ever-popular Lent Lunches start on Weds 20th Feb and run for 5 weeks.

12 noon start in the Parish Hall, Dovecote St – lovely home-made soup, roll, biscuits and tea, with a chance to meet others.  Minimum donation £1.50 – all monies to charity this year, including our local Amble Youth Project.

Lent Groups – this year we are going to watch the 4 part series The Passion, which was made by the BBC a couple of years ago.

This will bring the life and death of Jesus alive for us in a new way, and all are invited.  We meet at Trinity Church, at 1.30 p.m. on these Fridays:

15th and 22nd March and then 8th and 15th March.  Each episode lasts on hour.  Cuppa and chat afterwards for those who wish to stay on a while.

There will be a service to celebrate the Women’s World Day of Prayer at St Cuthbert’s on Fri 1st March at 7.30 p.m.

This is not a service FOR women, that would be exclusive and sexist!  It is a service open to all, which celebrates the lives and work of women across the world, especially in those places where women suffer oppression and go in daily fear of violence.  In the light of recent events in India, all are invited to come along and show solidarity with oppressed women everywhere.
