A 24-hour marathon of sail and leg power is taking place over Friday 28th and Saturday 29th June. The route encompases five beautiful castles on the Northumberland coastline.

The challenge starts at Alnwick with a 16 mile run to Amble, passing by Warkworth Castle. At Coquet Yacht Club, runners take to the water. After this sail power is the name of the game. Boats must complete a course taking in the other three castles: Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne.

Sites like the Farne Islands and views of Holy Island are clearly visible during this gruelling section. Finally the course ends on foot, with set runs scheduled to take place at Newton Haven and Seahouses harbour before the return sail to Amble to finish the circuit. The idea is for competitors to undertake an optimum of 52 miles of sailing and 26 miles of running in under the stipulated 24 hour period.

Book early because the event’s popularity is increasing with sailors and athletes from across the region and beyond.
