pennies-for-PhilippinesStudents from JCSC brought their pennies into school to raise money for the devastation and destruction left by Typhoon Haiyan.

The students at South Avenue expressed concern having seen the news coverage about the incredibly difficult situation in the Philippines and despite already raising money for North East Children’s Cancer Research and Children in Need they wanted to contribute a little towards this very desperate cause.

Assisted by sixth form students and middle school teacher Mrs Potts, children created a design of pennies and loose change in the main hall, spiralling and twisting with ornate designs and words as students arrived with their contributions.

“At the end of the day we are delighted to have raised £234 which includes an anonymous generous donation and students are still donating more”, said Mrs Parks sixth form teacher. “Thank you to everyone.”
