Angela Woodburn, Commercial Manager and Alan Punton, Harbour Master

Amble’s new Harbour Master is Alan Punton, who brings with him decades of experience as a Northumberland coastguard and lifeboatman.

“I’ve worked in mental health for the last 25 years, but I’m also a serving mechanic with the lifeboat at Craster.”

Alan has local credentials too, attending Amble Secondary Modern school in 1975.

“I started in June; my job is to look after the piers, quays, four car parks and the ice plant and fuel, as well as the general running of the quay for the fishermen.

“I also look after the Little Shore – and we’re planning a big clean up there soon.”

Alan says he has now met most of the fishermen and is busy building up a good relationship with them and with local businesses.

“The harbour is a focal point of Amble and it needs to be kept that way,” he said.

Also joining the Harbour Commissioners is Angela Woodburn, who is their new Commercial Manager.

“I’m looking at new revenue streams for the harbour. We have huge expenses; the quays, piers and all the infrastructure. The costs are significant. But we’ve got land and buildings and we need ideas and plans for the future to make better use of those assets to pay for our core function; which is maintaining the harbour.
