All being well, a new cocktail bar will open at the end of February on the site of a recently closed restaurant.

Becca and Chris Green plan to open a new cocktail bar in Amble

Chris and Becca Green have plans to open Hummingbird in the old Fat Mermaid premises. The pair are from Amble and both have backgrounds in hospitality. They married in 2021, and not long after, Chris wrote a cocktail book called Hummingbird. The couple then bought a horsebox and turned it into a little cocktail bar, doing pop up cocktail events.

Becca told The Ambler, “We originally started off doing pop ups in Brewis Beer Co, and thought the horsebox would be the perfect addition so that we could offer our services to a wider range of venues.”

Chris has 13 years of Mixology experience and Becca has always worked in customer facing roles, she has always taken great pride in excellent customer service.

Becca said, “Chris actually named his cocktail book Hummingbird after me. Me and my dad both have hummingbird tattoos, it’s very much something that connects us, so is a symbol very close to my heart. So, as the book was called that, we just carried on the name to our company once it was launched!

“We are planning to turn the Fat Mermaid into a bar specialising in cocktails, but will also offer a range of bottled beers and ciders, wines and spirits. We also intend to offer cold sharing platters (charcuterie and cheese boards) and bar snacks.”

The venue is currently advertising for part time staff. Check out their Facebook page
