Another successful Lifeboat Day

Over £7000 was raised at this year’s Lifeboat Day. A good crowd turned out to support the annual fundraising event on Sunday 27 August. The day started with good weather, and Rev. John McDermott led a service. The guest opener was Ann Cleeves, local author best known for her Vera novels. She spoke of her gratitude to the RNLI who many years ago rescued her husband who had been washed out to sea while ringing sea birds.

Entertainment was provided by Ellington Colliery band and later by the lifeboat crew themselves, as they demonstrated some of their skills with both the Shannon class lifeboat and the inshore craft.
An amazing £7981 was raised this year.

One of the organisers said, “A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us, pity about the showers but we hope you still enjoyed yourselves. Thank you to Ann Cleeves for opening the event, Ellington Colliery Band, Tom O’Donnell, the local and non local businesses and individuals who kindly donated and helped us to make the day a success. It’s very much appreciated by the crew and fundraisers. Thank you”
