Toilets refit delayed again
What is happening with the refurbishment of Amble’s public toilets? Despite a promise in 2023 to revamp the facilities, no work has taken place. The Ambler asked Northumberland County Council (NCC) when work will begin.
NCC say they hope to award the contract to refurbish Amble’s public toilets in September, with work on both toilet blocks now expected to be completed by the end of March.
Amble has two public toilet blocks, one in the Town Square, the other at the Harbour.
A spokesperson for NCC told The Ambler: “The intention is for one toilet block to be refurbished and the work completed before works start on the next facility and for both facilities to have been refurbished by the end of 2024/25 Financial Year.”
This is the latest refurbishment announcement, which initially was scheduled for 2023. In its 2023 budget, NCC approved £1.35m over three years to refurbish all 54 of the county’s public toilets. Some towns saw work completed, but a year later, citing spiralling costs, the county council announced a review on further work. Now, hopefully, Amble’s public loos will finally be upgraded before the end of March.
