Reports from our County Councillors #151

Cllr Jeff Watson
I hope by the time you read this article that the new Playzone situated in the Welfare field will be open for use.
I am informed that work commenced on 24 February and will give a much-improved play offer to our local children. The project is funded by Northumberland County Council and the Football Foundation.
Many thanks must go to Amble Development Trust for its cooperation with officers of N.C.C. in what was a long and difficult negotiation with the Football Foundation.
The gorse bushes on Rotary Way have been cut back at my request and I thank our Country parks team for doing it.
There is a local election for Northumberland County Council on 1 May and I am pleased to announce that I am standing for Amble West with Warkworth to represent the area that I love, live and work in.
I urge everyone to use their vote in this election, even if it’s not for me!

Cllr Terry Clark
Ivy Street – I have secured a native tree from Neighbourhood Services, a silver birch, a more established tree, which when planted, should minimise any tampering or damage.
• Apologies for the delay in double yellow lines on Ladbroke Street, Smith Street and Dovecote Street. These were going through my small schemes on a block submission, responses raised in consultation means they needed to go out to residents again. All areas will be resubmitted in March.
• Lord Mayor’s Field – The Environmental team continues to contact Park Leisure general manager to carry out regular inspections, so any fly tipping or litter can be removed as soon as practically possible.
• Hauxley Grange entrance (Percy Drive) regarding the construction of this area of road, this is the responsibility of the developer under national planning agreements whilst construction is underway, they can leave this section until the end of the project (I know this is totally unacceptable and planning laws need to change). Once completed, Highways Authority will check it’s built to appropriate standards.
Over the last year I have had Persimmons approach issues with filling potholes and using road sweepers to clean the entrance. Regarding resurfacing, myself, the town council and MP David Smith have constantly lobbied for this work to be carried out earlier, this being the main road into Amble. The developer has made the footpath marginally safer by introducing fillets of material that mitigate any potential trip hazards. I have repeatedly expressed the anger of all parties regarding resurfacing and road markings.
NCC have stated their solicitor is in the process of renewing the legal instructions for the agreement, they are unable to give an indication of when the agreement will be completed as it depends upon input from areas outside their control. However both NCC and Persimmons wish to see the completion of agreements as soon as it is practical.
