This year there is an election in the Central ward for Amble Town Council. The election will be held on 1 May, at the same time as the Northumberland County Council election. Only those living in the Central ward can vote for the prospective town councillors. There are three candidates, and voters can vote for two people.

Central Ward candidates:

DAVID BEWLEY – Independent

David Bewley

AMBLE TOWN (The Poor Relative?) Compared to Ashington, Cramlington, Ponteland and Morpeth.

My name is David Bewley and I have lived and worked in Amble for over thirty years and I have seen a considerable number of changes to the town, however not always to the benefit of the town and its residents.

UNAFFORDABLE HOUSES being built driving young people away to find suitable accommodation at a reasonable cost.

THE INFRASTRUCTURE has changed little since all these houses were built and being built. Doctors and Dentists surgeries appear to be under pressure to accommodate the rise in population.

YOUNG PEOPLE have very little to do because of the lack of Leisure facilities.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT hasn’t really improved whilst other towns have more frequent timetable.

COMMUNITY CENTRE   The town desperately needs a place where people of all ages can meet and attend classes whether it be hobbies or Health related Clinics, or just to sit and have a cuppa and chat.

I have been a Councillor for several years and have always strive to do what’s best for the town. If re-elected back onto the Town Council I will continue to regularly challenge the County Council to improve the town’s Leisure facilities which in turn will help improve fitness and mental wellbeing for all.

IF YOU WANT TO SEE CHANGES THEN PLEASE VOTE FOR DAVID BEWLEY

Your LOCAL and Independent Candidate.

CLAIRE CONNOLLY – Independent

Claire Connolly

In 2019 I moved to Amble partly due to the beautiful landscape and the thriving, dynamic community but also it was close to Newcastle where my daughter was studying.

I currently work part-time for a charity as a mental health advocate supporting and representing those with mental health concerns. During lockdown, I returned to work full-time to support NHS colleagues as well other front-line workers. Prior to working as an advocate, I worked as a children’s therapist for 25 years supporting children and young people and their families as part of the NHS and educational system.

In my time here, I’ve volunteered at several local community organisations, such as Amble Youth Project and Dry Water Arts. I am out on a daily basis walking my dog.

I want to put my skills developed whilst representing and helping people in my working life into practice as a town councillor. I want better provision for a Family Hub for Amble so young families get the kind support that is available in the likes of Hadston and Alnwick. My son coaches for Amble FC U14s, consequently I support the need for community facilities at the new high school as well as the case for retaining the old sports hall.

There is a need for more recycling bins, particularly for glass, which need to be located throughout the town, so they are accessible for all of our residents. There’s a need for a new bus shelter opposite the Amble Inn, as I frequently see local residents waiting for buses in inclement weather. I also recognise the need to make the case for a more frequent bus service to local hospitals.

I’d be very grateful to receive the support of residents in Amble Central Ward and represent them on Amble Town Council.

MICHAEL JOYCE – Reform
