Sand, sea and a sizzling Puffin Festival

Bumper crowds enjoyed the heat at this year’s Puffin Festival.

A spokeperson for Amble Events Committee said “It was a fabulous weekend of celebrating puffins and the environment, especially our beautiful Little Shore.

“The gorgeous weather was the crowning glory on a packed weekend. We thank everyone who took part, all our valued sponsors, and hopefully we’ll see you all again next year.”

Live entertainment and stalls filled the Town Square, and there were environmental and heritage walks and talks around town. Family activities at the Little Shore included sandcastle competitions, and kite making.

On the Braid, the annual dog show was held alongside bird watching and biosecurity dog demonstrations. The landscape artist of the year competition was another big success, this year’s winner was Janet Moloney.

On Sunday, ice swimmer Fenwick Ridley formally announced the Bathing Water status for the Little Shore, after which, swimmers and paddlers took to the water in the ‘Big Splash’ to celebrate the news.

  1. Hello, I was happy to participate in this year’s Puffin Festival by providing the talk on Ganseys at the Drywater Arts Centre – also happy to relate that there was standing room only! The next day I had a look round the market & found a fish stall which sold the best fish cakes ever. I didn’t buy enough. Please can you let me know the name of the business? And don’t forget to visit the Gansey exhibition! Thanks, Deb Gillanders
