Puffin Festival prepares for launch
Feathers are being preened and beaks are being polished in readiness for this year’s Amble Puffin Festival. This quirky festival is now in its eleventh year, and features arts, crafts, stalls, walks, talks, workshops, family fun and live entertainment.
The main festival takes place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May in various locations in Amble. The Town Square will see the stalls, entertainment, wildlife talks, and live footage of the Puffins on Coquet Island, while the RSPB will be on hand to answer any of your puffin related questions.

On Saturday, we have our very first guided Bord Waalk, which will include a visit to and discussion of some of Amble’s famous bird sculptures. On the Braid, there’ll be the usual and very popular dog show, pop up bird watching next to the Shorebase Trust, and a beer festival at Coquet Yacht Club. And at the Little Shore, you can try kayaking, and take part in Ranger Jane’s beach activities.
Be sure not to miss what promises to be a fascinating talk about Coquet Island and Amble from Dr Paul Morrison and George Young on Saturday night at Dry Water Arts. Tickets are available online: https://www.drywaterarts.uk/listening-room-events/talk or on the door.

On Sunday, we’re proud to host Katrina Porteous who will read some of her poems on the wildlife and human life on the Northumberland coast. We also are delighted that the popular Puffin Festival Landscape Artist of The Year competition is returning, run by Dovecote Street Arts. And the wonderful and inspiring Ranger Jane will be at the Little Shore again.

Fun on the beach with Ranger Jane
Throughout the weekend there’ll be a number of environmentally-based groups attending the festival, plus guided walks and talks. Our friends at Dry Water Arts and Amble Youth Project are also hosting a variety of cultural events before and during the festival.
Organisers are most thankful to the ever growing number of sponsors and prize donors, which this year sees Coquet Cottages as our main sponsor. Prizes have been donated by Radcliffes Lodge, The Old Boat House, Seaside Travel Amble, Puffin Cruises and Alncom.
And if you want to see the puffins in real life, be sure to book a seat on one of the Puffin boat trips direct from Amble harbour.
