Survey team at Hauxley beach
Walkers on Low Hauxley beach over the next few days may spot an unusual object floating close to shore. This is a remote survey vessel, which is being used to map the sea bed.

Fabian Clinton from Njord Survey explained what he and the team are doing “We work for a Swedish survey company. We’re doing work for the Maritime Coastguard Agency. They have a programme all over the UK updating nautical charts making sure that seafarers and cargo vessels can travel safely. A lot of areas have sandbanks that move yearly with the currents and tides. We’re just making sure that the maps are updated.”
The team will be working from the Blyth to Hauxley area for around a month.
The Njord Survey team have two bigger vessels which work further out to sea, but the small remote controlled vessel at Hauxley will keep close to shore.
