The project is based at the Dovecote Centre, and is already drawing a good deal of interest from volunteers, and filling with equipment thanks to the support of local groups.

An open day in January proved very popular, and Dave Cook, one of the organisers for the Man’s Shed told The Ambler they were all encouraged by the support and interest.

He explained what the project hoped to achieve:
“The objective of Amble Men’s Shed is to provide a well equipped workshop where men can go and enjoy the company of others, whilst undertaking small, mostly woodworking projects.

“We will need to focus on fundraising initially to cover our overheads so we will be offering a sharpening service, and will also be making various items to sell, such as bird boxes and hedgehog houses. We would like to thank all the people that have made it possible for us to get to this stage and look towards a great future.”

The project has received great support from: NTC Touring Theatre Company, Amble Town Council, The Hermitage Inn (Warkworth) Pub Quiz Team, the Rural Design Centre, the North East Business & Innovation Centre (BIC) and Hav Koffe.

Opening times for the shed are still to be finalised, so if you are interested or want to find out more about what they are doing, check out their Facebook page.

Jim Donnelly, chair of NTC was happy to see the project at the Dovecote Centre. He said “We’re really pleased to have a Men’s Shed back in Amble. It’s a great community project.”

Dave said “We’re really excited to get this started and very pleased to see the turnout.Ultimately Men’s Sheds are about connection, conversation and creativity, which hopefully leads to Happy and Healthy Men!”
