Tesco store delayed

Tesco still plans to continue with building its supermarket in Amble, although there will now be a delay in beginning work.

A spokesman for Tesco told The Ambler: “While we remain committed to completion of the new store in Amble we are currently reviewing some schemes for the coming year.

“We are currently looking at the timetable for the next stages of the store. However, there is likely to be a delay.”
Original plans were that building the store would begin this spring, with an opening date of Christmas 2012.

In March last year, plans for the 30,000 sq ft eco friendly supermarket with a 200-space car park were passed by Northumberland County Council’s planning department. 150 full and part time jobs were to be created.
