A building on the corner of Queen Street and Wellwood Street has won an award from the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding  Natural Beauty (AONB) Awards for Excellence.

‘Entrants could choose from Built Environment, Farming and Land Management and Sustainable Tourism’, said the Northumberland AONB Partnership.

‘Joint winners in the Built Environment category are two excellent shop refurbishments, the Wydenwell, Bamburgh and 2-4 Queen Street, Amble. (This is the building where the Indian Restaurant, the Taj Mahal, is situated.)

The Queen Street building  is part of the wider regeneration project in Amble with the architectural expertise being provided by Spence and Dower LLP. Both buildings show how careful restoration and attention to historic detail can not only ensure the future of the building but also enhance the whole street scene.’

The Awards recognise those whose work helps to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the AONB and improve the area for wildlife, visitors and residents.   The Award is for best practice.
