Saturday night (27 April) saw an amazing transformation of trash into treasure as a Gala Art Auction raised over £1,500 for Amble Youth Project.

Bids came in from all around the world, bringing much needed funds to the youth charity.

“An idea from one of Dovecote Street Arts’ Crit sessions developed a scrap piece of MDF board into 120 pieces of art,” said Matthew Connolly Chair of AYP.

The scrap MDF was cut into over 100 small pieces, each painted by local artists, then auctioned

Dovecote Street Arts Co Director Luke McTaggart said, “We were overwhelmed by the response to the auction and wish to thank all of the bidders for their support of Amble Youth Project. The auction generated more funds than we had expected and this is all thanks to the generous contributions of the artists. The sale of over 110 artworks will directly help young people in the Amble community.”

“Amble Youth Project want to thank Dovecote Street Arts, the artists and community around Amble and further afield, we had bids from New Zealand, Australia and Canada, for their kindness. We will be using the funds to support and develop artistic projects with young people.” added Matthew.
