Elsie’s big night

Congratulations to Elsie Jo Shotton, who scored a penalty to rapturous applause, and got to hang out with some of her heroes – one of them for the second time in a week.

Elsie with Ant and Dec

The eight year old who plays for Amble AFC Under 8 Girls was chosen to be a mascot for Newcastle United, and walked out on the pitch at the Crystal Palace match at Selhurst Park.

Elsie’s evening began on a high when she met Ant and Dec. “They were really nice and Ant told me that he used to come to Amble as a little boy and stay in the caravan park,” she said.

Elsie told The Ambler she had had a great time – despite Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat.

“The best part was walking out with Bruno, he gave me his jacket because it was freezing. I got to stand next to Isak and Gordon too. I met Callum Wilson the week before at Whitehouse Farm so it was great to get a picture of him holding up my Amble AFC top.

“I got to take a penalty at half time which I managed to score, the Newcastle fans in the away end went crazy!”
