Trust Life #157

Posted on 16th April 2026 | in Amble Development Trust

Hello everyone, welcome back to Trust Life, and after the rain comes the sunshine!

Sports Hall: previously I have outlined the process and timeline for the Community Asset Transfer. We had expected to hear back from NCC with a decision. However due to unforeseen circumstances this has been delayed.

We have been told this will be discussed and decided on 20 March at the meeting of the Strategic Property Asset Management group and we will be informed of the decision from 23 March – we still have our fingers crossed.

Work continues on the Neighbourhood Plan. The majority of work that steering group volunteers have been involved in is almost done. However, there is still the tedious task of preparing background papers for each area and element that is included.

Once these are completed, everything will be handed to the consultant so she can do her work prior to the next official community drop in, and then scrutiny by NCC.

Following the government’s announcement of Town of Culture competition, as you would expect, we have decided to throw our Amble ‘hat’ into the ring partnering with Warkworth, Hauxley and Acklington to tell our collective story of our connections through the river Coquet and former railways. Given our history can be traced back as far as the Bronze Age, there is a lot to scribe into the limited 400 words per section!
The winning town will receive £3m to host a series of events, exhibitions, activities and hopefully capital money for sustainable elements such as creative and culture hub. Two runner up towns will receive £250k to deliver elements of their bid. Before the ‘nay sayers’ complain of the many things £3m could be spent on, and yes, we know the arguments, but this is the government’s criteria and bids have to deliver what the government asks for. As always, we can but try and will keep everyone posted.

Our job search facilities are now open from 9am – 5pm each week day.
