Pudsey’s adventure from Hamble to Amble
Pudsey bear and his friends called in to Amble as part of a nationwide fundraising challenge.
The Children in Need mascot is sailing around Britain on a yacht, calling in at 35 ports, and taking in 2,500 nautical miles.
The yacht called Big Bear is owned by Jon Brewin and his wife Jackie. They are hoping to raise £70,000 for Children In Need to mark Jon’s 70th birthday.
Children’s mental health is a particular concern to Jon and Jackie.
Pudsey and his friends left Hamble near Southampton in May and hope to complete their round Britain trip at the end of August.
The team arrived in the Friendliest Port aboard Big Bear, mooring at Amble Marina. They met children from Brambles, members of Coquet Yacht Club and Amble RNLI. The next day they visited the Amble Welfare Playzone where Pudsey met young people from Amble Youth Project. The visit finished at the Amble Inn where they continued making new friends.
Crew member Glenn told The Ambler, “We left Hamble and now here we are in Amble! Everyone here is so helpful, welcoming and generous.”
Arya, 11, from Warkworth (pictured above) was very happy to meet Pudsey and give her donation. “I love Pudsey, he’s so fluffy. They do a great job fundraising!”
