Candidates for Amble’s county council by-election
The following candidates have put forward their intention to stand in the upcoming by-election on 1 October. The election was called after the sudden death of Arty Hume at the end of July. The election is for a new county councillor to represent Amble in Northumberland County Council.

We asked each candidate to tell us a little bit about themselves and what they would do for Amble if elected.

I am the only candidate in this election who lives in Amble, and I believe that matters. I live here, I know the town and I am affected by the same issues as my neighbours.
If elected on 1 October, I will push for the additional facilities our growing town needs and oppose further large-scale housing development. Amble has had its fair share of new housing, now our infrastructure and services need to catch up.
The Conservative-run County Council has invested almost £47 million in transforming education facilities in Amble and the surrounding area, including the new JCSC/Coquet Community School. I have been working with the County Council to make sure the fantastic new sports facilities at the school are open and accessible to everyone. The original plans specifically provide for community use of the new sports facilities.
I will also keep pushing to get the outstanding problems on our newer Persimmon estates sorted, including around Percy Drive, and hold developers to account for the commitments they made to residents.
As a Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor, I am already working for Amble. If elected as your County Councillor, I will work hard to make sure Amble gets its fair share and our town’s voice is heard.

Through my work at Hadston House, I already support residents across Amble and the surrounding communities, from tackling loneliness and helping deliver hot meals to older people, to supporting children, young people and families. Working alongside Cllr Scott Dickinson for 5years, I have had the opportunity to learn from his experience, see how local issues are dealt with and understand the importance of being there for residents. I’d want to replicate that positivity and local people first representation. This experience gives me the ability to hit the ground running.
If elected, I will be a visible, inclusive and approachable councillor for everyone, regardless of age, background or political views. I want to hold regular drop-in sessions so residents can raise concerns, share ideas and speak to me directly. I will listen, be accessible and work hard to get things done.
I will champion investment in Amble, support local businesses and jobs, and press for the infrastructure and services like needed to keep pace with new housing and a growing community things that have been neglected. That includes better transport links, access to health services and continued support for the community organisations that do so much for local people.
I believe partnership between residents, local communities and councillors achieves far more than the politics of division. I will work with people across Amble to make sure our town’s voice is heard and that it gets the investment and attention it deserves.
I will always put local people first and be a champion for all ages and generations.
