French exchange group visits Friendliest Port
Councillor Luke McTaggart, Mayor of Amble, welcomed French guests from the long-running Amicale Héry-Shilbottle exchange to Amble on 22 July.
After a short speech given in French by the Mayor, everyone enjoyed a coffee morning and a delicious spread, thanks to Eileen and Tony Regan, members of the Amicale Héry-Shilbottle Association, who were hosts for the day.
Afterwards, Eileen led a historical walking tour of Amble. The event was part of a very successful and enjoyable week of cultural activities.
The Amicale Héry-Shilbottle Association is a 63 year-old friendship and twinning partnership between Shilbottle and surrounding areas and Héry in Burgundy.
Although originally the Amicale was for young people it developed into an exchange between the wider community. Some of the young people who visited France in the 1960s are still involved today.
