A New Day Centre?

Posted on 11th April 2011 | in Community

Those who are missing the time that they used to spend at the day centre may find that a new venture at Oswald Court can take its place. An Enabling Session has started up on Fridays, from 10am – 1pm, run by Philip Parkinson Care. The cost is £5 per session, and this includes lunch.

Deputy Regional Manager, Mary Wraight, told us that sessions are open to everybody,  regardless of age or ability.  Anybody who simply feels lonely is welcome. The venue is accessible for wheelchair users, of course.

There have only been three or four sessions so far, but activities have included crafts, painting, bingo, quizzes and chair aerobics and a St. Patrick’s day lunch, with Guiness and Irish food.  The next seasonal activity will be decorating eggs for Easter.  Future plans for lunches include pie and peas, and cheese and wine.

Clients are well looked after and some carers will come in, on a voluntary basis, to help with the organising. Some clients have expressed interest in having a second session on another day of the week. Mary hopes this will be possible.  If you would like further information about these sessions, please ring 0845 3701230
