Tour of Britain whizzes through Amble

close up at the WyndLarge enthusiastic crowds greeted the Tour of Britain cycle race today Sept 9 as it whizzed through Amble.

The first six were approximately 2 minutes ahead of the rest of the pack.

Stage four of the tour saw the cyclists which included Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish leave Edinburgh, cycling through Ford, Wooler, Alnwick, Warkworth and Amble, ending at Blyth.

Decorated bikes and flags greeted the teams as they sped up the Wynd and along Albert Street.

Stage four was eventually won by 21 year old Columbian Fernando Gaviria cycling for Team Etixx Quick Step.

  1. Well done Ambler
I looked on your site this morning (Australian time) – as I often do – and lo and behold, a video of the Cycle Race travelling through Amble. How marvellous was that, and almost in ‘real time’. Very exciting indeed.
I must congratulate you also on “The Ambler”- a great source of information for those of us with more than a passing interest in the town. My wife Margaret and I left the North East over 47 years ago for The Antipodes but whenever we are in the UK we always spend some time back in The Friendliest Port. We last called in early February (yes, mid winter!) this year, 2015, and were impressed with all that is happening in the Harbour Village. What a transformation!
It is good to see the town being promoted, as witnessed by the numerous events reported in your digital publication. I was particularly interested in the Lifeboat Day celebrations and the visit of the injured soldiers to the town most recently. What a lovely gesture from the American Marine to place her fallen comrade’s ‘dog tag’ in the War memorial!
Keep up the good work and when next we visit the ‘Old Dart’ we will call in to the Ambler and congratu;late your staff personally.

    With every good wish

    • Thank you Gunnar, it is lovely to hear such a glowing report for The Ambler. I will pass on your comments to the team, they will appreciate your kind words. Come and see us soon!
      Kindest regards
